i now can't imagine anything more boring and stilted and stupifying than the way the wts instructs people to train and teach their children.. .

we're to sit at a table with one of their horrid, boring, dry, frightening publications.

read a paragraph, look up a scripture or scripture snippet, then ask the question.. .

Kids get cranky, hate the study, mom and dad don't even want to do it. Too awful. Too boring. Too regimented. Too Watchtower-y and smarmy.

A question regarding bringing reproach on Gods name

regarding the tragedy in gresham this last week, i have nothing but sadness for the loss of that young life, and nothing but sympathy for the family and friends that mourn her.

i do, however, see the attempts being made to make sure everyone "knows" that the alleged killer was not a "real witness.".

i was raised as a jehovah's witness and remember the conversations that surrounded any criminal action by a member of the congregation.

This week is interesting to me too because there's two parts that will focus attention on making it known to others that one is a JW. The last part in the School is about being proud to tell others about your beliefs whether at school or work. The whole 30 minutes or so of the Service Meeting is a discussion on the video, Young People Ask-How Can I Make Real Friends. The video has a section that encourages telling your classmates and teachers immediately that you're one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

So between a fear of bringing reproach upon God's name, and being pretty much forced or guilt tripped into letting everyone know you're a JW in school, it's like being between a rock and a hard place.

How will the WT "officially" respond to the Heichel case?

the case is garnering national attention.

it's pretty evident that both murderer and victim were jws, most likely in "good standing".

the jw angle is playing more prominently as details unfold.

I don't think they're going to address it. In due time this case will disappear just like all the other crimes of demented passion.

What I'm really curious about is how the WT will address the outpouring of support from "worldly" people to the families involved. I imagine most of the nonJWs showing support towards the families involved are completely obvlivious to the JW belief which the families of the victims also believe, that all nonJWs will be destroyed in the very near future. These worldy people showing good nature towards JWs throws a monkey wrench into mindset of JWs that believe all nonJWs are deserving of everlasting destruction. If I just lost my sister, daughter, wife because of a fellow brother in the faith, and then recieved emotional and financial support from the very people I look forward to being destroyed someday, that would really mess with my belief system. I wonder if the WT will address that end of this tragedy.

for a little background, my father served at brooklyn bethel a couple of years after the apostate purge and witchhunt.. he talks about how people said how you could see "jehovahs spirit" working to oust the korah dathan and abiram, hymanaus and alexander influences such a evil ray franz and others.

they make it seem like he was leaving to start his own religion or something.

anyways he was talking to a couple who were friends with another couple who went apostate.

How would your father and others with similar views respond if instead of talking about Korah, Dathan, Abiram, Hymanaus, and Alexander, the conversation centered around ......ummmmm lets say.....ummm.......Jeremiah, Barach, or Ebed-Melech, the three of whom went against the grain of what the leaders in Jerusalem were spearheading.

I like your thought on what if Bethel told you to jump from a bridge would you do it? We don't have to jump from bridges. It's suicide to listen to the WT's views on blood transfusions. It's like jumping from a bridge in slow motion when one listens to the WT's direction on education, or pioneering, marrying only in the lord, etc..

LOL Sir82, exactly!!

Notice the reference on Nanotechnology is from a 99" WT. I'm at work so I can't check the CD Rom to see if that article delves into Nanotechnology, but it probably does. If it does, considering we're encroaching upon 2013, the article's information is not only irrelevant, but grossly outdated. Like Sir82 mentioned, I can only imagine listening to an uneducated brother attempting to speak fluently and coherently from the platform on a subject such as nanotechnology, all the while trying to make a doctrinal point. That has fail written all over it.

On another note, is it me or does their description of life everlasting come off depressing at times? Read towards the bottom of the outline where it describes what we have to look forward to.

"Living forever will give us endless oppurtunities to discover more about Jehovah God and to enjoy friendship with all those who love him."

Maybe I lack imagination, but this line conjures to mind endless meetings and endless gatherings. It's just not encouraging to me.
